Validator¶
The Validator is where staff and administrators work through individual student schedule selections. You load a master schedule as the source of available courses, select classes for a student period by period, and let the app check whether the student's schedule meets all required courses for their grade and student type.
How it works¶
The Validator presents the available courses from a saved master schedule and lets you click to assign courses to a student for Semester 1 and Semester 2. As you build the schedule, the requirements panel on the right shows which requirements are met, partially met, or still missing.
When you are satisfied, you can save the session by name for future reference, or export the student's selections as a CSV file.
Key concepts¶
Source schedule — The master schedule you load into the Validator. All available courses and periods come from this schedule. If the master schedule changes after you save a session, the Validator detects the difference and shows a conflict warning when you reopen the session.
Semester 1 and Semester 2 — Each student gets a schedule for each semester. Full-year courses (like core subjects) are automatically carried over from Semester 1 to Semester 2 when you select them.
Student type — A profile that defines which courses are required for a particular student (for example, a Grade 7 German immersion student versus a standard Grade 8 student). Selecting a student type automatically populates the requirements panel with the correct requirements for that student.
Requirements — Each grade level has a set of required courses (core subjects, required electives, and semester-specific requirements). The requirements panel shows the status of each requirement in real time as you make selections.
Waivers — If a student completed a requirement in a previous year, you can mark it as waived. Waived requirements are tracked with the session and do not count as missing.
Validator sessions — A named save of the student name, grade, type, all selections, waivers, and the source schedule. Sessions can be reopened, updated, and exported.
